Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point

Our return back to New York took me to two other destinations other than Long Island. You cna check out my prior trip to Long Island where we played Bethpage Blue.

This tour took us to Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point and Pound Ridge Golf Club.

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is the closest public championship golf course to Manhattan and offers stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.

Taylormade M5 and M6 Irons and Woods

Location: 19/20

Accessibility: 9/10

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is conveniently located in the Bronx just a short trip from Manhattan. It is even closer to LaGuardia International Airport (9 miles) but that trip can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a half hour. The reason the course does not get a perfect score is that the traffic in the New York area can make this course a headache to get to even though it is ultra-convenient for those who live in Manhattan or the surrounding area.

Course Views: 10/10

Concrete jungle to a rolling hills masterpiece. That’s the beautiful contrast this course offers. The course is flat enough to feature the Manhattan skyline on most holes along with views of the picturesque Throgs Neck Bridge. The course itself is beautiful with the long fescue grass on rolling hills creating a links style feel amongst the high rises of New York.

Facilities: 30/30

Pro Shop: 5/5

The clubhouse is very large and has an elegant colonial design to it. The Pro Shop is the first thing you walk into and has a wide variety of gear to take home as a souvenir or if you forgot something last second. Plenty of branded gear to go around.

Practice Facilities: 10/10

The practice facilities are top notch and some of the best in the local New York City area. There is a large driving range available with mats or natural grass to hit off of (Natural grass only open at certain times). Additionally there is a massive putting area and chipping area. In the clubhouse you have full access to a locker room with showers.

Restaurant: 5/5

The main restaurant is under the same roof as the pro shop. There is a large seating area with limited menu options but quality food. There is also an outdoor seating area and banquet hall available for more formal events.

Staff: 5/5

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They were very professional and accommodating. Cart service was not available on the course but there was a halfway house.

Rentals/Golf Cart: 5/5

Rental clubs are brand new Taylormade M5 and M6 irons and woods with golf carts that include GPS and cooler.

Fairways: 28/30

Fairway Condition: 9/10

I played in the early spring and the fairways were in great shape throughout. There was still some patch work here and there as the fairways were recovering from the rain and winter. Divots were fixed more often than not.

Rough Condition: 9/10

The first cut of rough was in great shape but the fescue grass areas were a bit dried and in need of some TLC. Talking to staff, this is normal for the course early in the season and they expected it to fill in nicely over the coming weeks.

Sand Trap Condition: 10/10

The bunkers had a natural design to them with very asymmetric shapes. This created a unique challenge and added to the immersion of the course. The bunkers were in fantastic shape with great sand consistency from fairway traps to green-side bunkers.

Greens: 12.5/15

Greens Conditions: 4.5/5

For the early spring, the greens were in great shape. There were still a few thinned out patches but the greens rolled true and ball marks were fixed more often than not. They were on the firmer side and rolled quick.

Fringe: 4/5

The course does like its landing areas around the greens and they were tightly cut and well maintained. The fringe green-side was well maintained but still had some spots of GUR or burn out, likely due to the early spring conditions. Again, I was reassured by staff that this should resolved soon.

Par 3's: 4/5

The Par 3’s at Trump Golf Links, Ferry Point were guarded by a lot of water or sand. While i wouldn’t say there is. any signature Par 3 hole, they were all tricky and fun designs to keep you on your toes.

Value: 5/5

Even with a steep price to play, this course offers some of the best golf you can get in the New York City area. With its easy accessibility to Manhattan and the other boroughs and it’s tremendous views, it’s a perfect escapes form the hustle and bustle of the city life. The course is also in fantastic shape and well worth the money.

Scoring Recap:

Final Rating: 94/100

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is a new favorite for me. I frequently visit New York and the connivence ofd the course is a huge plus. In addition, the course conditions and views are some of the best we’ve seen and add to the uniqueness of the course.
